Naprosyn Information:

In the highly competitive world of pharmaceutical business, there are hundreds of medicines which are used to treat symptoms of arthritis and other forms of bone, muscle, or tendon pain. One of them is Naprosyn. It was first brought into the market in 1976 as a prescription drug and belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug family.

It is generally used for the treatment of severe pain, stiffness, fever and inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendonitis, bursitis, gout, menstrual cramps and dysmenorrhea. It is also used for headache, migraines, swelling and pain after setting of broken or dislocated bones, post surgery pains, dental pain etc

Body pain is caused by the release of a chemical called prostaglandin. This chemical is also responsible for fever and inflammation and is produced by an enzyme in the body called Cyclo-oxygenase. There exists two known isoforms of this enzyme in the body, namely Cyclo-oxygenase-1 and Cyclo-oxygenase-2, also known as COX-I and COX-II respectively. COX-I is essential for the maintenance and smooth running of certain functions such as kidney functions, cardiovascular functions, gastrointestinal functions, liver functions etc; COX-II is responsible for the production of prostaglandin (the pain stimulant chemical). Naprosyn works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandin by the Cyclo-oxygenase enzyme, and thus relieves pain. However Naprosyn affects both isoforms of Cyclo-oxygenase and is not COX-II selective like other such products available in the market.

Typically Naprosyn comes in two forms; one is aimed at immediate relief and the other for longer term relief. The immediate relief is great for amazingly fast action, and can help one back on one’s feet in case of athletic injury or aching joints due to arthritis. The long action is more aimed at providing continuous medication and takes a longer time to relieve pain. This medicine is available only on doctor’s prescription because of its adverse side effects; however this medicine is 100% non-addictive.

Naprosyn is effective for mild and moderate pain and is aimed at patients above 12 years of age. It has an effective dosage or about 200mg to 500mg twice a day; however excessive use should be avoided as, like all NSAIDs, Naprosyn also has the same side effects. Studies have shown that Naprosyn causes a significant increase in the risk of cardiovascular malfunctions such as a heart attack or a stroke. It also has adverse effects on gastrointestinal functions, and can cause stomach bleeding, diarrhea, nausea, constipation, abdominal pain and vomiting. It might also cause skin eruptions or headaches.
