Valtrex Information:

Valtrex is an antiviral medication, which controls the growth of the herpes virus and enables the body to combat the infection. It does not possess the capability to cure herpes, yet it reduces the symptoms of the infection to a great extent.
The diseases caused by the herpes viruses on which Valtrex acts include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles and chicken pox. This drug may also be used for some other purpose, apart from the prescription.

Before you begin taking Valtrex, you must consult your doctor if you suffer from HIV/AIDS, kidney disease, kidney or have undergone a bone marrow transplant as it can be harmful to your kidneys. Moroever, the side effects may also increase if you are taking other medications along with Valtrex. Consulting your doctor will help, as they may recommend you undergo some tests or take other medicines along with Valtrex.

You should start Valtrex as soon as you realize any symptoms of herpes. These include tingling, burning or blisters. It begins to show its effects after a couple of days. Consume Valtrex as directed by your doctor. It can be taken before or after a meal. You should take each dose with a full glass of water and drink plenty of water during the course of this drug, so that your kidneys are not affected. Keep the medicine away from moisture or light.

The herpes virus is transferable to the baby from the pregnant mother. In case if you have genital herpes, you must prevent a herpes outbreak during your pregnancy to make sure that it not transferred to the baby during birth.

Valtrex cannot stop the spread of genital herpes, as these infections are contagious and you can infect others while you are taking this drug. You should avoid sexual intercourse or use a latex condom, so that you do not spread the virus. You should also make sure that the infected part of your body does not touch other people.

Valtrex also has certain side effects, however, the possiblity is rare. These may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, feeling tired, joint pain, menstrual pain, or mild skin rash. Sometimes it may also cause certain serious side effects such as easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, pain in your lower back, drowsiness, mood changes, increased thirst, loss of appetite, nausea or  vomiting.

Although these side effects are very seldom, if you experience any of them, you must consult your doctor before continuing the medication.
