Wartec Cream Information:
Genital warts exist as either small flesh colored bumps or cauliflower shaped growths around the genital area. In some cases they can be very painful and itchy. They may go away on their own but medical treatment is needed if they are persistent. Wartec cream is an effective medicine to treat genital warts, also known as condylomata acuminata. Podophyllotoxin, the main ingredient in Wartec cream, has been used widely for the treatment of genital warts.
Wartec is an anti-mitotic agent i.e. it prevents mitosis (cell division process in which one parent cell divides into two daughter cells with the same characteristics as the parent cell). Thus it prevents the cells in the warts to grow, causing the warts to disappear. Wartec is not a cure for diseases that cause warts, rather it’s an easy solution to get rid of warts in a short time.
It takes usually one course of 3 days to get rid of the warts. However as mentioned earlier, Wartec is not a cure for the infection which causes these warts i.e. human papillomavirus (HMV). The toxic effect of this cream on the wart tissue prevents their growth by mitosis and thus causes them to die out and allows the skin tissue to grow healthily.
The cells contain a globular (round, circular) shaped protein called tubulin. The molecules of this protein assemble to form a tube shaped structure called microtubules, which maintain the cell’s shape and growth. Wartec contains Podophyllotoxin, which binds itself to the protein (tubulin) and thus prevents it from assembling to form the tube shaped structure. Thus the tissues of the warts decay and disappear, allowing the healthy skin tissue to grow.
Wartec is for external use only and should be applied twice a day for three days, directly on the genital warts. Only enough cream should be used to cover the warts completely. If warts persist then the course can be repeated after 4 days. The course should not be repeated more than 4 times, hence if after the fourth course the warts persist, then a doctor should be consulted.
Wartec has only mild side effects, which is also a reason for its popularity in the treatment of genital warts. Side effects may include redness of skin, itching, burning sensations, skin irritation and pain. These side effects may only be temporary and may disappear on their own, however if the symptoms persist then professional medical help should be sought.
