Zovirax is an antiviral drug, which is used to control the herpes virus. It enables your body to fight the infection and thus not let it spread.  Zovirax is not a remedy for herpes. This drug fundamentally lessens the symptoms of this virus. It is used to treat infections caused by herpes. These viruses include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox. This medicine can be used for other purposes, apart from those outlined in the formal prescription.

You should shake the Zovirax suspension well just before taking in. Take the drug according to the presciption of your doctor. Use a spoon or a marked measuring medicine cup to be sure of the quantity you consume. Take this medicine with a glass full of water. It can be taken before or after your meal; there is no need to have an empty or full stomach. It is advisable to complete the full course of your medication, even if you feel better after a few days. If you miss a dose, you must not take extra medicine to make it up. Just follow the regular schedule of dosage.

You should start taking Zovirax as soon as you identify symptoms like tingling, burning or blisters. If you are allergic to any medicine, do consult your doctor before starting Zovirax. If you have kidney disease, then also you need to inform your doctor as this medicine can be harmful to kidneys. Pregnant women have to be careful, as the herpes virus can be transferred from the mother to her baby. They should take this drug in consultation with their doctor.

As herpes infections are transferrable, other people can get infected by you. For this reason, you should be careful and make sure that that the infected part of your body does not come into contact with other people.

Just as with all medicines, Zovirax can also cause some side effects. Some serious side effects include pain in the lower back, urinating less than usual or not at all, easy bruising or bleeding or unusual weakness. Although these side effects are rare and not very serious, it is advisable to see your doctor if any of these appear. Other normal and more common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, stomach pain, headache, feeling light-headed, or swelling in your hands or feet. Though the probability is less, you should consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.


Zovirax Cream:

Zovirax cream is used to heal cold sores on your lips and face. It is an antiviral medicine that is helpful to treat these sores caused by herpes simplex viruses. It aids the body in combating the virus, by preventing it from proliferating. Even though this cream cannot thwart an eruption, it makes it easier for cold sores to heal. It is an antiviral, and acts by halting viral multiplication.

As we have stated, Zovirax cream cannot stop an outbreak of the herpes virus,  but it is a very effective medication to hasten the healing of cold sores. 

You have to apply this medicine as advised by your doctor. You should also read the label on the cream for precise dosage indications. To apply Zovirax cream, wash and dry your hands and the area on which you have to put it. You should only apply the cream on the affected part, not to the surrounding skin. After this, rub the cream gently till it is no longer visible. After applying Zovirax cream, wash your hands. You should bandage or cover the affected area only if it is advised by your doctor. It is recommended that you should not not bathe, take a shower, or swim immediately after using this medication.

To get rid of your infection fully, you need to undergo the complete course of Zovirax Cream treatment. Even ifyou feel better after a few days,  it is better to continue using it till you complete the course. It is advised that you start this medication as soon as you feel initial signs of a cold sore, including tingling, redness or itching on your face or lips.
While using Zovirax Cream, you must not use other cosmetics on your face or lips. Be careful while applying this medication; make sure it does not go in your eyes, nose or mouth. If it does enter your eyes, wash them with cool water. This cream is not advisable for children under 12.

Although Zovirax Cream does have certain side effects, they are very rare and minor. You may feel burning or stinging, dry or cracked lips, dryness or itching. These are common and minor side effects of this medicine and are very rare. Some serious side effects which are even more rare include severe allergic reactions like rash, itching, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue and dizziness. Although the chances of these side effects are small, if you do experience any of them, you must consult your doctor.
